Guildford to Winchester
We set off in RAIN this morning. What’s that all about?? We haven’t ridden in proper rain since New Zealand! You may note that this is very fortunate ;). Fortunately it didn’t last too long, but it was cold enough for me to keep my waterproof trousers and overshoes on for most of the day. Changing times…..
The route today was pretty good, apart from the section through Guildford itself. Which was fine really, just busy. The traffic was really good and let us hop across lanes itself without any complaints. We then rolled over never- ending hills all the way to Winchester. Some very pretty sections with lovely villages and huge houses. We based our route on Sustrans once again, but took out the off-road sections. Which actually meant we didn’t spend much time on the route at all!
Arriving in Winchester as rush hour wasn’t our greatest idea. Wiggling through a strange town in heavy traffic…..with added hills. Fun! However, we were soon at our Warmshowers hosts - Steve and Biggi. What a lovely evening we had with them. They are going on a long tour in Europe next year so we had a lot of ‘helpful advice’ for them! So much chatting that we ended up going to bed too late again. Early night tonight I think!
