In addition to being very bike friendly, with LOTS of cycle paths\nand backroads, it's also a very affordable destination. I am not sure we paid\nmore than 15 euros for a campsite the entire time. There are municipal (no\nfrills) campsites in most towns, and the non-municipal sites were about the\nsame price anyway (but feel a lot more like holiday parks). Supermarket\nshopping is very affordable, and the all-important fresh bread is readily\navailable for small cost. As is the wine, of course.
\n
In terms of Eurovelo 5, there is no evidence of any route until Mulhouse but,\nafter that, it's all signed. It follows the wine route through Alsace which is\nabsolutely gorgeous......but far from direct. You could still ride a wonderful\nroute by cutting off a few of the loops - I probably would have felt fulfilled\nseeing just half of the 'fairytale' villages! But I'm not complaining really!\nWe skipped the route after Molsheim as it does a biiiiig detour to take in\nStrasbourg and to follow bike paths. We took a more direct route which was\nvery pretty indeed, but not quite so flat!
\n
Bottom line - France is great, come here immediately if you haven't already\nbeen (and even if you have!)
\n
<span\n      class=\"gatsby-resp-image-wrapper\"\n      style=\"position: relative; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;  max-width: 800px;\"\n    >\n      <a\n    class=\"gatsby-resp-image-link\"\n    href=\"/static/0518835cebdf119a56f6b91247256efe/6a068/B4FA711C-7EB4-4C9F-82CB-AD6826609107.jpg\"\n    style=\"display: block\"\n    target=\"_blank\"\n    rel=\"noopener\"\n  >\n    <span\n    class=\"gatsby-resp-image-background-image\"\n    style=\"padding-bottom: 99.50000000000001%; position: relative; bottom: 0; left: 0; background-image: url('data:image/jpeg;base64,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'); background-size: cover; display: block;\"\n  >\n  <img\n        class=\"gatsby-resp-image-image\"\n        alt=\"Our route in France, following Eurovelo 5 fairly faithfully between Mulhouse and Molsheim.\"\n        title=\"Our route in France, following Eurovelo 5 fairly faithfully between Mulhouse and Molsheim.\"\n        src=\"/static/0518835cebdf119a56f6b91247256efe/4b190/B4FA711C-7EB4-4C9F-82CB-AD6826609107.jpg\"\n        srcset=\"/static/0518835cebdf119a56f6b91247256efe/e07e9/B4FA711C-7EB4-4C9F-82CB-AD6826609107.jpg 200w,\n/static/0518835cebdf119a56f6b91247256efe/066f9/B4FA711C-7EB4-4C9F-82CB-AD6826609107.jpg 400w,\n/static/0518835cebdf119a56f6b91247256efe/4b190/B4FA711C-7EB4-4C9F-82CB-AD6826609107.jpg 800w,\n/static/0518835cebdf119a56f6b91247256efe/6a068/B4FA711C-7EB4-4C9F-82CB-AD6826609107.jpg 960w\"\n        sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\"\n        style=\"width:100%;height:100%;margin:0;vertical-align:middle;position:absolute;top:0;left:0;\"\n        loading=\"lazy\"\n      />\n  \n
","frontmatter":{"date":null,"path":"/journal/232","title":""}}},"pageContext":{}}}
