There's a fabulous veggie cafe that does a\nbuffet at lunch time - pile your plate high for great value! It's called\nLoving Hut. EmmaLou is great for coffee and food as well. We walked a tiny bit\nof the coastal walkway, which looks lovely. And popped into the i-site which\nis huge, has free wifi, a cafe and a museum. There's some art deco\narchitecture dotted around, plus some cool street art. We only scratched the\nsurface - plenty to do here!
\n
We had a wonderful time hiking the Pouakai circuit, and would recommend it to\nothers. It isn't actually very long, but there are a lot of steps on the\nplentiful ascent / descent....so after 6 months of mostly only cycling, our\nlegs are no longer talking to us! We had absolutely perfect weather, so the\nviews were sublime. If you fancy it, we also recommend the Mountain Shuttle to\nget you up there. $35 each (return) which seems very reasonable, and Ian is\nalso a tour guide so can tell you everything you ever wanted to know about the\narea.
\n
A few days very well spent for sure!
\n
<span\n      class=\"gatsby-resp-image-wrapper\"\n      style=\"position: relative; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;  max-width: 800px;\"\n    >\n      <a\n    class=\"gatsby-resp-image-link\"\n    href=\"/static/cc936bc71613aea3eace9d506607ffbf/f9218/E8E7D849-D6E0-4424-A3E8-D7C571FD1435.jpg\"\n    style=\"display: block\"\n    target=\"_blank\"\n    rel=\"noopener\"\n  >\n    <span\n    class=\"gatsby-resp-image-background-image\"\n    style=\"padding-bottom: 75%; position: relative; bottom: 0; left: 0; background-image: url('data:image/jpeg;base64,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'); background-size: cover; display: block;\"\n  >\n  <img\n        class=\"gatsby-resp-image-image\"\n        alt=\"Mt Taranaki, the Dome and the swamp - some highlights of the Pouakai circuit.\"\n        title=\"Mt Taranaki, the Dome and the swamp - some highlights of the Pouakai circuit.\"\n        src=\"/static/cc936bc71613aea3eace9d506607ffbf/4b190/E8E7D849-D6E0-4424-A3E8-D7C571FD1435.jpg\"\n        srcset=\"/static/cc936bc71613aea3eace9d506607ffbf/e07e9/E8E7D849-D6E0-4424-A3E8-D7C571FD1435.jpg 200w,\n/static/cc936bc71613aea3eace9d506607ffbf/066f9/E8E7D849-D6E0-4424-A3E8-D7C571FD1435.jpg 400w,\n/static/cc936bc71613aea3eace9d506607ffbf/4b190/E8E7D849-D6E0-4424-A3E8-D7C571FD1435.jpg 800w,\n/static/cc936bc71613aea3eace9d506607ffbf/e5166/E8E7D849-D6E0-4424-A3E8-D7C571FD1435.jpg 1200w,\n/static/cc936bc71613aea3eace9d506607ffbf/f9218/E8E7D849-D6E0-4424-A3E8-D7C571FD1435.jpg 1333w\"\n        sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\"\n        style=\"width:100%;height:100%;margin:0;vertical-align:middle;position:absolute;top:0;left:0;\"\n        loading=\"lazy\"\n      />\n  \n
","frontmatter":{"date":null,"path":"/journal/146","title":""}}},"pageContext":{}}}
