Alzingen to Esch-sur-Sure
Wednesday October 10, 2018, 43 miles (69 km) - Total so far: 6,727 miles
(10,825 km)
Yesterday we took a day off - Luxembourg City is a treat. It has a spectacular setting across a steep gorge. Add to this a wealth of pretty architecture, and it’s quite the looker!
As for today - we followed a bike path right through the city centre on our
way north. It was very cool to see the city from a lower vantage point! The
gorge is so pretty too.
We left Eurovelo 5 at some point, but of course didn’t notice as there are no
signs for it here. It heads West and misses Holland, hence our deviation.
We continued on bike path along the river for quite a chunk of the day, which was very pleasant indeed. Unfortunately for us, and anyone following in our wheeltreads ;) all the climbing comes at the end of the day as you leave one river valley, amble across the lumpy plateau, and finally descend into another. Do not be fooled into assuming Luxembourg is flat!! It was tough but absolutely worth it for the lovely views.
The Sure valley is particularly picturesque, and Esch is a beautiful spot. We were pretty cold and tired when we arrived though! The campsite is of the Italian style with lots of permanent caravans, but the tent pitches and facilities were great, and it’s very quiet of course. 18 euros.
